How to Become a Christian
Are you tired? Are you looking for true happiness and peace of
mind? Have you felt heartache and desperation in your life? Here
are a few simple steps leading to forgiveness and new life. Read
them, act upon them, and allow the love of Jesus Christ to
remake you in the person He wants you to be.
1.
Believe that Jesus is your friend and that
He cares about you.
"Casting all your care upon
Him; for He careth for you" (1 Peter 5:7)
"For we also once were foolish
ourselves, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts and
pleasures, spending out life in malic and envy, hateful, hating
one another. But when the kindness of God our Saviour and His
love for mankind appeared, He saved us, not on the basis of
deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His
mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy
Spirit" (Titus 3:3-5 NAS).
"Jesus … said unto them,
‘They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they
that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, ut sinners to
repentance" (Mark 2:17).
"For the Son of man is come to
save that which was lost" (Matthew 18:11).
2.
Call upon Him for help – NOW!
"For the scripture saith,
Whosoever believeth on Him shall not be ashamed. For there is no
difference between the Jew and the Greek: For the same Lord over
all is rich unto all that call upon Him. For whosoever shall
call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Romans
10:11-13). "Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy
laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and
learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find
rest unto your souls. For my yoke s easy, and my burden is
light" (Matthew 11:28-30).
3.
Believe Him to save you from sin,
depression and fear.
"Verily, verily, I say unto
you, He that hearest my word, and believeth on Him that sent Me,
hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but
is passed from death unto life" (John 5:24).
"If thou shalt confess with thy
mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God
hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved" (Romans
10:9).
"Who (the Father) hath
delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us
into the kingdom of His dear Son" (Colossians 1:13).
"God hath not given us the
spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound
mind" (2 Timothy 1:7).
4.
Believe He will cleanse you and make you
over again.
"But if we walk in the light,
as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and
the Blood of Jesus cleanseth us from all sin … If we confess
our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to
cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:7,9).
"Therefore if any man be in
Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away:
behold, all things are become new" (2 Corinthians 5:17).
5.
Confess Him publicly as your Lord and
Saviour.
"Whosoever therefore shall
confess Me before men, him will I confess also before my Father
which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny Me before men, him
will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven"
(Matthew 10:32,33)
"Whosoever shall confess that
Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in
God" (1 John 4:15).
"For with the heart man
believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is
made unto salvation" (Romans 10:10).
6.
Trust Him with simple, child-like faith.
"And Jesus called a little
child unto Him, and set him in the midst of them, and said,
Verily I say unto you. Except ye be converted, and become as
little children, ye shall not enter into the
Kingdom
of
Heaven
" (Matthew 18:2,3)
"But without faith it is
impossible to please Him; for he that cometh to God must believe
that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently
seek Him" (Hebrews 11:6).
"Therefore being justified by
faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus
Christ" (Romans 5:1).
Pray this simple prayer, in faith,
believing He will hear you and answer:
Dear Lord Jesus, with my
mouth I confess my sins, my emptiness, my selfishness. Forgive
me; cleanse my heart and give me a new beginning. I receive You
as the Lord of my life. Here and now, I determine to trust you
with my life. And with Your help, I will let You recreate me
into a new person. I believe what the Bible says is true, and
I’ll act upon it. Jesus, wash me, cleanse me, make me new, be
my very best friend. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
CONGRATULATIONS! You have just made the most important
decision in your life! Jesus has come into your heart. He will
be your best friend. Make time to talk with Him daily. Read His
Word, the Bible, regularly. He will speak to your heart and lead
you all the days of your life, if you continue to seek Him and
let Him. Locate a strong Christian church in your community for
Bible study and fellowship. And be baptized as a public
profession of your new faith in God.
