Baby on the way

At the weekly prayer meeting on Tuesday March 14th at 7:30 pm my water broke and my body began preparing to deliver our baby.  By the time we got home that night from prayer labor pains had already begun.  We contacted our doctor at 10pm and by 2am we were told to get to the hospital.  Soon after we arrived at the hospital I was in hard labor.  By 6am I was at 6 cm waiting to get to 10 to have the baby.  Our doctor had another couple arrive for a c- section and when he completed the operation he arrive to check on me again.  There was no further progress. So the doctor suggested an epidural and off to the operating room we went.  Contractions were 3 minutes apart with very little time between the first and second contraction.  The doctor administered the epidural but 1 hour later the medicine had not worked. I was still experiencing hard labor pains.  So the doctor decided with my permission to do another epidural.  This one took a little while to work but eventually it did the job.  After about 4-6 more rounds of contractions the pain stopped.  The doctor proceeded to check the baby’s heartbeat.  The heart rate had been very strong throughout the entire time, but now the baby was in distress and the heart rate was slowing down. Dr. Grefnes said to us we must do a c-section now.  We knew there were problems but also that God was in control.  So we immediately gave permission and the operation started. We later found out the Deborah was positioned wrong and there was no way she could have been delivered the way she was.  If she had been in the correct position the Doctor said she would have been born before breakfast.  It was such a blessing to me that A.W. was allowed to be in the operating room with me the entire time.  What a surprise when the doctor told us it was a “Girl”.  We had gone for a sonogram and the doctor told us it was a boy.  We were surprised but blessed with a wonderful gift from the Lord.  Our daughter “Deborah Raquel” is beautiful and she was born at 3:14 on March 15th 2006.  We were in the hospital from Wednesday until Friday afternoon.  I could not wait to get out of the hospital and get home.

Safe in Mommy's arms

Saturday night we received word that A.W.’s dad was failing fast and would not live much longer.  A.W. was able to talk to his father over the phone and share a bit of his heart with him even though his father could not answer we know that he heard what A.W. had said.  His sister’s shared with us that A.W. senior was shaking his head in acknowledgement when they were on the phone. One blessing to us was that even though A.W. Jones Senior did not get to meet his granddaughter in person.  Sandra & Stacy printed the photo that we had sent to everyone and showed their dad,   He then smiled upon seeing the photo.  God had allowed him to see his granddaughter not in person, but still he got to see her face before he died.

We booked A.W. a plane ticket that night and he left for the states at 5:30 early Sunday morning.  This was very difficult for us since I was not able to go with him since my surgery was only a few days earlier and also Deborah was not legally a Mexican or US citizen at this point.  We could not take her out of the country.   My heart was torn but I knew that A.W. needed to go and try to get to his father’s bed side before he went home to be with the Lord.  Sadly, while in route to Memphis A.W.’s dad passed away before A.W. even reached Atlanta.  His sisters had planned to meet him at the airport to tell him, but A.W. called to see how I was doing and God allowed me to tell him his dad had gone home to be with Jesus.

Friends to the rescue

Amy from Tennessee came to help me for a week and that was such a blessing to us.  As well as our friends living here in Guadalajara have been such a blessing and help to me during this time.  They ran errands, paid bills, made meals, changed my bandages etc.  We are so thankful for the many people that God has placed in our path.

Round the Clock Light Therapy

During this time Deborah became Jaundice. The doctor ordered blood work which came back with a level of 31. More than 22 is considered too high.  Since I could not drive the doctor came to the house to check on the baby, we found a clinic for the blood work that made house calls as well as a medical equipment supplier that made house calls to deliver the equipment we needed. After 1 day of 24 hour treatment more blood was taken from Deborah. The doctor had expected her level to be around 28 but when God is working anything is possible.  Her blood work showed that the count had gone down to 20.  This gave us the chance to share with the Doctor that God is working miracles on Deborah’s behalf. He agreed that this does not happen and it had to be God. Hallelujah!  The next day when the medic came I had to help hold Deborah’s arm since she did not have her assistant with her.  The vein collapsed the first time she tried to get blood.  When she was going to try the other arm I prayed out loud asking God to help us get the needed blood quickly.  The nurse stopped and prayed too.  Within 4 seconds of the needle going in the vein she had the needed blood for the test.  Then the results came in and it was down to 15 and once we had the results Saturday morning she was taken off the treatments

Preaching His Fathers Memorial Service

A.W. preached at the memorial service for his dad while in the states.  He had also ministered at his grandfather’s funeral almost 2 years ago.  The blessing is that we will see both A.W.’s dad and grandfather again because they were saved and are now with Jesus.

Back in Guadalajara

It is so good to have A.W. home with us now.  He returned last Saturday night and has been spending time with our daughter and I as well as helping with things that I am unable to do right now.  It has been a difficult time but God has seen us thru.

Thanks so much for all your prayers and notes.  You are all such a blessing to us.
